DayZ: End of the Road
DESCRIPTION:
DayZ, the onetime mod and now standalone game, has been relatively forgotten; brewing away on Steam's Early Access for years without much word. Earlier this year, the continuing silence was broken with an official announcement promising a finished game release in 2018 (with similar promises made for earlier years, I remain sceptical). Regardless of whether the game makes this date or not, DayZ does not deserve to be left by the roadside; lost and abandoned - it is time to prepare for the coming dead. To help you do just that, this excellent short film from Fence Post Productions has been produced - and when I say short, I mean it! The ride is over in around 7 minutes but, holy damn, what a 7 minutes! The quality is mind-blowing for such a low-key production and the acting is surprisingly high quality. The directing, the unpopulated, rural setting and the "regular guy" actors work wonderfully together to create a sense of isolation, where unseen danger could strike at any moment. That 'danger' is, on the surface, the Zombies - becoming all to visible towards the end of the scene; rushing in, hollering and screaming in true 28 days later style. There is, however, another threat that can be just as fatal come the end of days - your fellow man...
