Running from the Infected

DESCRIPTION:

This shot, taken from film 28 Weeks Later, shows Don (played by Robert Carlyle) running from "Infected", victims of the barbaric Rage virus. For anyone not familiar with the story, or even Danny Boyle's must-see 28 Days Later original, the unfortunate people (and animals) who are contaminated with the Rage virus, turn into fast-moving Zombie-like cannibals, yearning for human flesh and seeming to do anything to get another morsel. I write "Zombie-like" because there is still a lot of debate over whether "Infected" actually can be considered Zombies; they show an unstoppable desire to spread the infection, often by biting, they charge around with little obvious intelligence and certainly no regard for their own safety, they never tire and seem oblivious to anything other than lethal pain. These are all traits of the walking dead and the mere fact they are still technically alive, just afflicted by a behaviour-altering virus, does not exclude them from the ranks of the living dead. It's an interesting question that perhaps deserves further discussion on The Dead Times but, to me, there is an even more diabolical question lurking behind the scenes; when, oh when, will we see the long-rumoured follow-up, 28 Months Later?
