DESCRIPTION:

In the sleepy town of Centerville - "A real nice place" - the dead have risen from their graves and are unrelenting in their desire to consume the flesh of the living.

MY VERDICT:

Leading up to release, news from The Dead Don't Die frequently made reference to it's stunning cast of actors including Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton and Iggy Pop. Unfortunately, this star-studded line-up is the main draw of the movie; there is not much in the way of action until the final scene and the thin 'the dead rise to eat the living' plot is very straight-forward. Also, the performances from these greats are, barring Tilda Swinton's epic Scottish woman, all a bit 'wooden', lacking any real flair or excitement which is extremely disappointing. They do get some quality jokes in, particularly Adam Driver's character, but these often make fun of the fact the movie is just that; a movie - people having read the script and knowing what is going to happen. This kind of humour is not really my ideal scenario as it destroys all immersion, making it difficult to take the rest of the film at all seriously (still, if you like this sort of thing, you'll be in store for some good laughs). All that aside, the film is not terrible; the classic-style, slow-moving Zombies are fairly convincing, looking suitably undead and the production values remain quite high throughout. It just seems like a hastily constructed movie made for the wonderful cast of actors to be in rather than a well-thought-out movie that just happens to have a wonderful cast of actors in it.
