DESCRIPTION:

Flesh-crazed Zombies have begun to rise all over the globe - the government and military fight back but their struggle is doomed to failure as the relentless dead advance through the streets. For John, a business man, trapped in New York, this apocalypse is more than just a catastrophe - he is separated from his wife and unborn child by 900 miles of open country. Teaming up with ex-army pilot Kyle, he begins the deadly and perilous journey home. However, Zombies are only half the threat. Without rules and discipline, society has collapsed and living people, desperate to survive, will do anything to stay that way. There is hope for the world though as rumours circulate of a place called Avalon; safe, secure and protected.

MY VERDICT:

I found this an average read, I can't say I was that disappointed as the premise for the book points at a simple A to B travel log through a Zombie infested world. The story does follow this formulaic approach but throws one major curveball to try and upset the order of proceedings. It works, adding enjoyment to a lacklustre narrative, though just comes a bit too late in the story for any real benefit - you have likely already decided whether to read on or give up by this point. By far the worst part though, and what contributes mostly to the low score I gave 900 Miles, is the absurd number of typos and tense errors in this book. Sometimes the character is clearly relaying events happening in real-time. Other times, he describes those events as happening in the past - often giving himself an extremely off-putting sense of being able to tell the future.
